Have you seen this video?
This internet craze, the poptart cat traversing the galaxy leaving behind rainbows, is the subject of today's nail art.
I know I'm not the first to do this design but I thought I would put my own spin on it. I did look to this video to get inspiration on how to create this look.
This nail art was done on Color Club Gossip Column.
Everything was done freehand, but with acrylic paints instead of nail varnishes. I've always wanted to use paints to see what it was like. This seemed like the perfect design to test it out.
All photos were taken outside (except for the last one)and use natural lighting.
Tips for Nail Art using acrylic paints:
- The paints are mostly water based. If you wait for the base coat to dry you can easily clean up mistakes with water or just wiping away.
- Some colors are more sheer than others. Go over the nail art with a second coat to intensify it.
- It is easier than nail art with actual polish. However, a topcoat must be used to seal in your design. Otherwise your design will likely be washed away when in contact with water.
I chose to paint Nyan Cat on my ring finger with rainbows on my middle and index finger (like the video). My pinky and thumb have the stars in the background from the Nyan Cat video. I have seen people put Nyan Cat on the thumb and then have the other fingers be rainbows.
Close up of one of the "star" nails.
Close up of Nyan Cat. I think I applied my topcoat too thick because it bubbled like crazy unfortunately. Luckily, in real life the bubbles are not noticeable.
Here's a shot of all the paints used to create this look.
So, what do you think? Are you a fan of Nyan Cat? Have you ever tried nail art using acrylic paint before? I would love to hear your opinion!
On To The Next Polish,
Katie
This looks great. I never thought of using acrylic paints on my nails.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip!

Your attention to detail amazes me. Absolutely incredible job you've done here!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty late to the party because I only saw that video now. Although, I've seen other people's Nyan Cat nail art. Hehe, of course nail stuff gets my attention first. ;) No surprise there.
I like to use acrylic paints for nail art too! Love the mani. It is very creative!
ReplyDelete@Krissy Thanks! Paints work well, just don't forget a topcoat!
ReplyDelete@Ellie They work really well! I had seen the idea of using paints all over YouTube tutorials and gave it a try. It was a lot of work for the detail, but well worth it.
@SwatchAndLearn Thank you very much! Haha! That's okay. Nails totally get my attention too. The way I discovered it was through my friends. They were obsessed with the cat!
@imfeelingnail-venturous They work great don't they? I have a lot of paint left over from craft projects. I was excited to learn that they could be repurposed for nail art. Thank you!
Wow! What a great idea--I admit I don't quite "get" Nyan cat, but think it's super cute!
ReplyDelete@KarenD Thanks! I'm not sure if I totally "get" Nyan Cat either! The cat is definitely cute though!
